Black Clover Season 2 Confirms October 2026 Premiere, Returning Director & Main Staff

Black Clover has confirmed that Ayataka Tanemura will return to direct the anime’s second season, reuniting the creative team behind both the original TV anime and the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.

The main staff for Season 2 includes:

The new season is scheduled to premiere in October 2026, marking the anime’s long-awaited return more than five years after the original anime concluded in 2021. In addition, a special panel will be held at Anime Expo 2026 on July 4 featuring Asta voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara and director Tanemura. The event will include the world premiere screening of Season 2’s first episode as well as new updates on the upcoming season.

The return of Tanemura is likely to be welcome news for fans. He directed a big portion of the original anime’s later run and also helmed Sword of the Wizard King, which was released globally on Netflix in 2023. A new illustration and comment from the director were also revealed alongside today’s announcement.

“Once again, I’ll be serving as director! Will Asta and the others finally return after such a long time? We’re pushing ourselves beyond our limits in production so that we can show you an even more powerful story! Asta and the others’ new adventures… Please continue to support them!!”

Black Clover Reveals 10-Minute Season 1 Recap Trailer

To help fans prepare for the sequel, a 10-minute recap video covering the events from Season 1 has been released on YouTube. The video was previously shown exclusively at the Black Clover Exhibition events held in Tokyo and Osaka and is now available online.

The Black Clover manga was serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 2015 to August 2023, before transferring to Jump GIGA. It entered its final arc in August 2022 and officially ended on May 1 after eleven years of serialization. The manga is available to read on Viz Media’s website, MANGA Plus website, and the Shonen Jump mobile app in English. 

It received a 170-episode anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot, which ran from 2017 to 2021. The Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie premiered on June 16 and is streaming on Netflix. Crunchyroll streams the TV anime, and they describe the story:
