Players can now get their first hands-on experience with Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad ahead of the game’s full launch next month. As previously confirmed, the game will launch globally on July 10.
Publisher Bandai Namco has released a new demo trailer for the upcoming VR-inspired action RPG, while also making the playable demo available on Steam. Demo versions for PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled to launch later today.
Unlike previous Sword Art Online games, Echoes of Aincrad places players in the role of a fully customizable original protagonist rather than established series characters such as Kirito or Asuna. The game marks the first time in the franchise that players can create their own avatar and experience Aincrad’s story from a personalized perspective.
The demo will allow players to explore the game’s opening content through five full missions. Participants can also test every available weapon type and familiarize themselves with the combat system before the full release. You can watch the new demo trailer below.
Set within the world introduced in the original Sword Art Online series, Echoes of Aincrad invites players to enter Aincrad before the events of the death game fully unfold, giving a new perspective on the franchise’s recognizable setting. A long-form promotional anime titled Unanswered//butterfly was also announced to release alongside the upcoming game.
