There are many reasons to visit a convention: from guests to musical performances, to games and meet ups, from TGC tournaments to workshops. But one of the highlights of a convention will always be the cosplay community!
That’s why I walked around the four days of Manga Barcelona 2025 looking for new cosplays to add to my photography collection. The conclusion? I made new friends and many unexpected cosplay gatherings.

The Gorilla’s Masterpiece
Hideaki Sorachi’s works are on the rise and I confirmed it during Manga Barcelona. These cosplayers brought to life many main characters from the manga and anime Gintama, one of my favorite anime of all time.

While the main anime series ended with the movie Gintama The Final, in recent years fans were blessed by Mr. Ginpachi’s Zany Class, the anime adaptation of Sorachi-sensei’s debut one-shot Dandelion, the Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames Arc reanimated movie, and even a new manga by the same mangaka, titled Class 2-B Hero Destroyers.
While now and then I found some Gintama cosplays, this was the first time I shot a Gintama meet up.
Luckily for me, I finally had a photo of my favorite character, Tama!
The Strongest Sorcerer in History versus The Strongest Sorcerer of Today
From the acclaimed Jujutsu Kaisen, the cosplayer couple @kuro.no.cosplays (Gojo) and @cocoos_play (Sukuna) fought acroos the Fira Barcelona to find out who is the strongest sorcerer.
I had so much fun looking for good angles for this shoot. As you can imagine, it’s hard to find empty settings for a cosplay shoot.
And this wasn’t my only shoot with them!
Cleaning at a Convention
I also had a shoot at night with Kuro and Cocoos, but this time as Enjin and Riyo from the manga and anime Gachiakuta.
The tricky part for this shoot was the low light, as I didn’t bring any external flash. Nonetheless, we played with the outside lights of the convention center. I’m very happy with the result!
They also presented to me two additional Gachiakuta cosplayers for my collection: @cacttus_senpai as Eishia Stilza and @crhcosplay as Amo Empool.
Gachikuta cosplays are interesting to shoot, as you work with things lying around in a convention.
Like Ice and Water
During the same night I caught up with some cosplayer friends from the north of Spain, the cosplayers @madipcosplays as the fan favorite Fairy Tail couple and ship Juvia and Gray.
We also played with the convention light conditions, which is a good challenge for a photographer. As you can see, we found an empty place in the last hour of the event.
The first time I met Madip Cosplays, they were cosplaying as Juvia and Gray too at Bilbao, Spain. After that, we have met in different cons, and I even visited them for a weekend shooting in a natural environment.
From Helluva Boss to Black Butler
Cosplayers @ale_lollipop_girl and @staruune show us that you can choose to match your cosplays or not, and still deliver a fashionable duo.
While I haven’t watched Helluva Boss yet (please don’t judge me), I like the stylish and demonic designs of the characters, and how cosplayers put a lot of effort in the make up.
Moving to their next cosplay, Randal was a first for me as a photographer but I thought it fits with this version of Ciel from Black Butler. Will we see this duo in a cosplay ball?
The Love Hashira
A convention is an occasion to meet someone for the first time. In this case, this was my first shoot of @lau.usagi.cos as the charismatic Mitsuri Kanronji from Demon Slayer.
I hope to cross paths with her again in the future!
Building Up the Ki
You may remember Ranmura and Xeplay from my previous cosplay shootings, as they always deliver cosplays with stunning bodies and wigs. They participate in many contests across Spain and have won entries to overseas contests.
They also brought their Dragon Ball cosplays to the Japanese event Pop Culture Hiroshima!
Double Trouble
Madip Cosplays joins forces with @alma_paint_print to steal some Pokemon in this Team Rocket cosplay.
If you are wondering: yes, some of these poses were really hard to shoot! Still, we had a lot of fun and we could exercise our creativity.
We also got a little surprise by @fertimore69 running around the convention as the playful Evil Eye from Dandadan.

Horse Racing at Fira Barcelona
Tokai Teio is an emblematic character from the mobile game and anime Uma Musume. Thanks to @irwiza_cosplay, I was blessed with my first Tokai Teio shooting.
In anime corner we have also covered Uma Musume gatherings in real racecourses around the world: Santiago, Chile, Santa Anita Park, California, Tampa Bay Downs, Florida, and in my home country, Peru!

X Brings Chaos to Manga Barcelona
If I have to say something about cosplayer @amazxnlily is that she loves white haired characters. For Manga Barcelona, she brought the mysterious and deadly X from anime and manga Sakamoto Days.
Thanks to her experience in modeling, we could experiment with different poses. We both are fans of the franchise, so we tried to put in the mind of X.
I hope to shoot her next white haired cosplay!
The Big Finale
When I started this article, I was sure that the best way to wrap up was with a Black Clover groupal shoot. The manga ended weeks earlier, so I thought it was a fitting finale.
as Nero, and Asta.
I crossed paths with this cosplayer group of friends many times already. They always deliver many of favorite franchises, such as Fire Force and TenSura.
I still don’t know what anime they will bring next, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy taking photos of it!
I hope you enjoyed this cosplay hunting as much as I did. As a cosplay photographer, it’s exciting to find new characters in every corner. I’m already wondering which cosplay I’ll find at the next Manga Barcelona.
