BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA Episode 8 Made Me Crash Out Too

Well, Miyako has completely lost it, but honestly, it was a valid crashout.

BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA Episode 8 had a lot going for it: Miyako finally crashing out, Nonoka getting a reality check, Ritsu warming up to life as a transfer student, Arale realizing that she isn’t alone in standing against Viola, and Yuno ultimately leaving the band. Every member had something going on in this episode, and each of their struggles only made the situation more complicated. And, of course, Viola was once again revealed to be the maestro pulling the strings behind all the chaos.

On top of all that, the band performed again, though not quite at the level of the previous episode but still it’s honestly insane considering how packed this episode already was. Everything also fit together surprisingly well despite having so much to cover. The pacing never felt rushed it was all natural, making the whole episode easy to become immersed in what every member was going through.

Miyako was the one who resonated with me the most this episode. Seeing her finally realize what she has gotten herself into while everyone around her seems to act like nothing is wrong would be frustrating enough. But then you add everything else she has been dealing with: being constantly busy, struggling to keep up with her work, hopelessly in love with someone who has been manipulating her, and having someone like Nonoka constantly approaching everything with this sunshine-and-rainbows attitude, thinking she can save the world through sheer positivity. I would crash out too, to be honest.

Miyako has clearly had enough, and I’m glad she finally let everything out. But did she really have to be that mean to Nonoka? This is where I have to draw the line on Miyako glazing and say no. Nonoka absolutely needed a reality check. She needs someone to remind her that this isn’t simply a story about cute girls doing cute things in a band. We already have K-On! for that. BanG Dream! has always been willing to dive into drama, conflict, and the messy relationships between its characters. Optimism alone isn’t enough to fix everything. Even the earlier series in the franchise weren’t afraid to build their stories around tensions between band members. BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA is no different, and I would even argue that it’s handling these conflicts better than ever.

Yes, we’re going in circles again with the whole “someone is quitting the band” situation. I literally even said, “here we go again,” after finishing the episode. But despite that, I never felt like the story was becoming repetitive or stale. Part of that might be because BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA has its own identity. Its story is heavily shaped around virtual spaces and the online world, which gives its conflicts a different flavor from what we’ve seen before. More importantly, the series has managed to create a villain unlike anything we’ve seen in the franchise so far.

Viola’s influence over everything that has been happening is what makes this situation especially interesting. She’s not simply creating conflict for the sake of creating conflict but instead she’s manipulating people, exploiting their weaknesses, and letting them tear themselves apart while she remains several steps ahead. The more pieces fall into place, the more apparent it becomes that the chaos we’ve been watching wasn’t entirely accidental. And this is where I think BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA shows how much the writing of BanG Dream! has evolved over time.

Sure, everything is still a mess. We might even get another redemption episode around Episode 10 and see the band come back together, just like we did with MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica. But I don’t think that makes YUME∞MITA any less interesting.

If anything, I think the series has enough of its own identity to make this story stand out from what came before. The characters, the online setting, and especially Viola’s role in all of this give the conflict a different kind of weight. For now, I’m still excited to see where everything goes. At this point, we already have every piece of the puzzle. It’s only that they’re just completely jumbled together.

All that’s left is putting them back in the right place. And when that finally happens, I have a feeling everything we’ve been watching will make a lot more sense. But for now, I am in the same feels as Miyako—crashing out every episode. It’s really funny how I have now more crash out moments watching this series than the entire MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica saga.

I really thought BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA was going to be less chaotic than its predecessors, however, that wasn’t to be the case because it turned out to be worse (in a good way).
