Jinushi’s Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You manga series is getting a TV anime adaptation scheduled for nationwide broadcast on TBS in 2026. Additionally, the manga creator released an illustration, mainly featuring the main characters Sasaki and Yamada/Tayama, to celebrate the anime announcement. The studio, staff, and voice cast are yet to be revealed.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You anime is based on a manga series that was initially launched as a webcomic published on Twitter in March 2022. Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine serialized the title in August 2022. It currently has six volumes in circulation, with the 7th volume set to be released on July 25, 2025.
Square Enix Manga & Books is also publishing it in English and has four volumes available, and the 5th volume is slated for release on August 12, 2025. They describe the first volume as follows:

His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
