Shingo Natsume’s first original feature-length anime film, ghost – end of night, has revealed its main cast in a new teaser trailer.
Mayu Hotta stars as Nike, a 15-year-old girl who has already been “selected” in a society where people are judged at the age of 18 on whether they are needed by the world. Despite receiving privileged status early, Nike struggles with isolation and finding where she belongs. Issei Takahashi voices Mas, a man burdened by the loss of his family who spends his days wandering while covering his body with tattoos before crossing paths with Nike.
The teaser introduces the pair’s relationship through their first voiced scenes. It also features the insert song “Sugar” by Japanese rock band Hitsujibungaku.
The original film is set in a future where labor is no longer necessary and society determines each person’s value through a selection process. Natsume serves as both director and screenwriter on the project, which marks his first original theatrical feature after directing acclaimed anime including One-Punch Man Season 1, Sonny Boy, and ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Regards.
Commenting on the project when it was first announced, Natsume stated, “With animation, something that could be considered a kind of fiction, I want to create a work that reflects the spirit of our time and pursues a sense of realism.”
The production also reunites several key staff from ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Character concepts are provided by Natsume Ono, with Norifumi Kugai handling character designs, music composed by Ohzora Kimijima, and studio MADHOUSE in charge of the animation.
