A brand new Pokémon anime movie titled Pokémon: Wild Card has been announced for release in 2027. The film will center on the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), with a teaser trailer and “Super Teaser Visual” revealed. It’s described as a completely original feature-length animated film.
The project was unveiled during the Pokémon World Championships 2026 in San Francisco and will mark the first new Pokémon movie in about seven years. The last theatrical release was Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which premiered in Japan in December 2020.
The teaser trailer introduces Mikiya, a Pokémon Card Game player wearing a yellow hood reminiscent of Mimikyu. Mimikyu itself also appears.
Katsuhiko Kitada, who previously worked as an episode director on THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, is directing the movie. Akemi Hayashi is handling character designs, with studio CloverWorks is in charge of animation production. You can see the teaser visual below.
Pokémon revealed its Generation 10 games and starters during this year’s Pokémon Day, presented during the Pokémon Presents livestream on February 27, 2026. The games are titled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves and will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The franchise previously revealed numerous special anime shorts, including an anime for World Earth Day, a Dragonite-focused short by CoMix Wave Films on Pokémon Day in 2025, and the recent POKÉTOON short anime titled Wartortle and the Continuation of Summer directed by Shingo Yamashita.
Another new anime, The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, was also recently announced for 2027. Animated by Aardma, the stop-motion anime will stream on Disney Plus.
