Aono Nachi writes and illustrates the manga that the anime is based on. It was serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime from August 2018 to January 2020, before moving to online serialization on both PixivYurihime and Ichijin Plus. Kodansha USA is licensing the series in English, and they described it as:
An orphanage for girls is actually a boot camp, turning out magical child soldiers for a gruesome war. Yet love finds a way to blossom amid bloodshed, in this dramatic, much-anticipated yuri manga that is spiritual kin to the likes of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Otherside Picnic, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.
