Cygames, Inc., has announced that it will sponsor a race at the 152nd edition of the Kentucky Derby. The sponsored race, “Pleasant Colony Presented by Cygames,” will take place on Saturday, May 2, during Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Further information, such as track details and the race time, will be announced later. As part of the sponsorship deal Cygame’s logo will be visible on horse’s saddle towels, the starting gate, finish line, and the winner’s circle.
The Pleasant Colony Presented by Cygames
The Pleasant Colony Presented by Cygames, is the second Kentucky Derby race associated with the video game developer. Last year, they sponsored the “Unbridled Sidney Stakes Presented by Cygames,” a 1,100-meter (5 ½ furlong) Grade III race. The Unbridled Sidney Stakes Presented by Cygames was open to any filly and mare three years or older and included a purse worth $400,000 USD.
Cygames, Inc. will also sponsor the Surrey Stakes at the Betfred Derby Festival at Epsom Downs in Surrey, England, and the Gran Premio Latinoamericano in Lima, Peru. The company has not announced if it will have a booth at the event. During the 151st Kentucky Derby (2025), Cygames set up a “360° photo and game booth” where curious onlookers and fans could sample games like Umamusume: Pretty Derby, Grandblue Fantasy, and Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond.
Cygames, Umamusume, and the Kentucky Derby
Their Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise, which originated from the mobile game of the same name, has become a global phenomenon. It now boasts several spin-off manga, several TV anime, OVAs, and a theatrical film. Several racecourses in Southeast Asia and Latin America have hosted Umamusume events and cosplay races. Many in the horse racing community have praised Umamusume for introducing younger audiences to the sport.
Dating back to 1875, the Kentucky Derby is one of the longest sporting events in the US and one of the longest horse racing events in the Americas. The race is the first part and the most watched/attended part of the American Triple Crown series.
