Baki Gaiden: Kaioh Retsu Isekai Spin-Off Gets TV Anime Adaptation

The Baki spin-off manga BAKI GAIDEN: KAIOH RETSU Doesn’t Mind Getting Isekai’d is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. The spin-off follows Retsu Kaioh after the conclusion of his battle against Musashi Miyamoto in BAKI-DOU. Reincarnated in another world, Retsu sets out to prove the strength of Chinese martial arts against swords, magic, and powerful creatures unlike anything he previously faced.

TMS Entertainment will handle animation production, continuing its involvement with the franchise following BAKI, Baki Hanma, and BAKI-DOU. You can watch the announcement trailer below.

The manga is based on an original concept by Baki creator Keisuke Itagaki, with Sai Ihara credited for the story and Eiji Murai handling the art. It has been serialized in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Champion since 2020. As of August 2026, the series has surpassed 2 million copies in circulation across print and digital editions.

Keisuke Itagaki wrote and illustrated the Hanma Baki original manga. It ran from 1991 to 1999 in Weekly Shonen Champion and was collected into 42 volumes. There were 3 sequel manga series, Baki, Baki Hanma, and Baki-Dou, all of which ran in the same magazine. Lastly, the 5th series, also titled Baki-Dou (but romanized differently), started in October 2018 and announced its anime adaptation in March 2024.

The latest reboot began in 2018 with Baki, which ran for 26 episodes and was animated by Double Eagle and TMS Entertainment. Baki: The Great Raitai Tournament Saga followed in the Spring of 2020. Baki Hanma (also known as Baki: Son of Ogre) is the third installment of the reboot, and Baki Hanma Season 2 picked up right after the first season. BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai Part 2 began streaming on Netflix in June this year.
